Beijing, China, Apr 15, 2008 -- Siemens China entered into a Center of Knowledge Interchange Agreement with Tsinghua University today to further enhance the bilateral cooperation in research and development, marking the first of such arrangement by Siemens in Asia. Mr. Zhang Yaoxue, Scholar at the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE) and Director-general of Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education, Dr. Hausmann, President and CEO of Siemens China and Prof. Kejun Kang, Vice President of Tsinghua University attended the signing ceremony held in Beijing and endorsed the two agreements.

北京4月15日消息——西門子（中國）有限公司今天與清華大學(xué)簽訂了一份知識交流的協(xié)議，以進一步加強雙方在研發(fā)領(lǐng)域的合作，該協(xié)議成為西門子在亞洲地區(qū)簽署的首個此類協(xié)議。中國工程院院士兼教育部高教司司長張堯?qū)W先生、西門子（中國）有限公司總裁兼首席執(zhí)行官Hausmann博士以及清華大學(xué)副校長康克軍教授出席了此次在北京的簽字儀式并簽署了這兩份協(xié)議。      

The Center of Knowledge Interchange (CKI) relationship is the highest level of cooperation for Siemens with higher education institutions. As part of the CKI program, both parties signed a 5-year framework agreement, valued at multi-million RMB per year, focusing on R&D collaboration. The cooperation program will cover a wide spectrum of topics, including high speed train technologies, water purification, CO2 capture, clean imaging, intelligent traffic systems and other areas of mutual interests. Under the agreement, selected senior Siemens executives and university leaders would form a joint Steering Committee to oversee the cooperation program between the 2 institutions.

建立知識交流中心（CKI）是西門子在全球范圍內(nèi)與教育機構(gòu)建立的最高級別合作模式。作為CKI合作的內(nèi)容之一，西門子和清華大學(xué)簽署了一項為期五年的科研框架合作協(xié)議，年度金額達到數(shù)百萬元人民幣，重點在研發(fā)領(lǐng)域的合作。該合作計劃涉及廣泛的領(lǐng)域，包括高速列車技術(shù)、水凈化、二氧化碳減排、高清成像、智能交通系統(tǒng)以及雙方感興趣的其他領(lǐng)域。根據(jù)框架協(xié)議，雙方還將成立一個由西門子高層管理人員和清華大學(xué)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)聯(lián)合組成的指導(dǎo)委員會，指導(dǎo)雙方的合作計劃。

Mr. Zhang Yaoxue, Scholar of CAE and Director-general of the Department of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education attended the signing ceremony today and applauded the cooperation:" the partnership and cooperation on innovative programs between multinational companies, Chinese universities and Chinese research institutes will speed up commercialization of research results and maximize complementary advantages of both sides. This kind of mutually beneficial and win-win partnership will pave the road for a new form of innovations with Chinese characteristics."

Funded by Siemens, the Siemens Center of Knowledge Interchange will serve as the liaison office between Siemens and the University to promote knowledge interchange and R&D collaboration. Assigned as the Siemens Ambassador for the CKI at Tsinghua University to champion the university cause within the Siemens community, Dr. Hausmann, President and CEO of Siemens China praised the cooperation, "The CKI relationship provides us a systematic way to increase mutual cooperation. As China is playing a more and more important role in Siemens' global network of innovation, the CKI cooperation will bring Siemens and Tsinghua, two great institutions both strong in technology and innovation, closer together that we can leverage each other's strength to make us better equipped to face the challenges in the new century."

A series of technical workshops were also held today to commemorate the "Siemens Day" in Tsinghua University, on topics like healthcare, energy and industry. Chief Technology Officers, heads of R&D and technical experts from various business units of Siemens joined the exchanges with Tsinghua faculty members to explore areas for potential collaborations, marking the biggest ever of such event between Siemens and Tsinghua.

Starting from 2007, Siemens embarked on a worldwide effort to increase its university cooperation programs with top universities outside Europe. With a long history of engaging various kinds of cooperation programs with Chinese universities, Siemens selected Tsinghua University in Beijing and Tongji University in Shanghai as the first two in Asia for building the CKI relationship.

Siemens' cooperation with Tsinghua University can be dated back to early 1990's and was further extended to research projects in the areas of energy, industry and healthcare. In 2006, Siemens signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Tsinghua University, elevating the partnership to a new level. Under the arrangement, Siemens would award scholarship to the 20 most outstanding students from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Department of Automation each year for three years.

西門子與清華大學(xué)的合作最早可追溯到上世紀(jì)90年代早期，并且在能源、工業(yè)及醫(yī)療等領(lǐng)域進一步加強了研究項目。2006年，西門子與清華大學(xué)簽署了一份戰(zhàn)略合作協(xié)議，把合作提升到一個新的層次。根據(jù)協(xié)議，西門子將連續(xù)三年每年為電氣工程學(xué)院以及自動化學(xué)院的20名最優(yōu)秀的學(xué)生頒發(fā)獎學(xué)金。
